The first properly global brewers, AB InBev, well-known for their beers such as Stella Artois, Jupiler, Hoegaarden and Leffe, are currently expanding their Leuven brewery by a fourth brewing line. This line consists of different components serving the following functions: brewing, fermentation, filtration, storage and bottling. Bellt, part of Batenburg Techniek, was asked to provide the automation for the brewing and fermentation section. The implementation was based on PLC and SCADA systems by Rockwell.
The new brewing hall and the light beer cellar have all commenced production. For AB InBev, the realisation of this project means an important increase of their capacity by 33%. This increases the brewery capacity from 9 million hectolitres to 12 million hectolitres on an annual basis. Some 70% of all the beer brewed at Leuven is destined for export.
So if you come across a nice cold beer, join us in a toast to a successful project.
